Gold Coast beats Melbourne in global tourist poll
MyGC Reveals Coasts Latest Outstanding Achievement
For the first time ever the Gold Coast has beaten Melbourne in a leading global tourism Top 10 list.
The tourist hot spot came second behind Sydney in the Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Awards, pushing Melbourne into third place.
Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter says it’s an astounding achievement.
“This is great news for the Gold Coast,” Mr Winter told MyGC.
“The Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award, which is a consumer based award system, has indicated that only Sydney is a more attractive place for them to go to,” he said.
“For a destination that is soley based on leisure tourism, it’s a fantastic accolade.”
Mr Winter said the rating is a testament to the incredible work that’s been done by the Gold Coast’s operators, accommodation providers, food outlets and other attractions.

“It also reflects on the changing nature of the Gold Coast now, which is more than just a beach destination; it’s wonderful that the industry has achieved this recognition.
“Even though we don’t expect to see more people coming here (because of this survey) it confirms the great tourism destinations on earth.
“To be named in this particular award is something we can all be very, very proud of,” he said.
